How do I avoid going to jail if I’m driving tipsy?

We all know we should not drink and drive, but that is not always possible due to unforeseen circumstances. This means that if one is driving tipsy and gets pulled over, the fear of a New Jersey DUI is real. The first question when those lights come on is, what now? The first interaction is now First, breathe and stay calm. Just because one is tipsy does not mean that is the reason they are being pulled over. Oradell cops pull over people for a lot of reasons unrelated to one’s perceived tipsiness. But it is important to make sure that this initial interaction goes well because this is where a potential police report begins. Find a safe place to pull over. After one pulls over, before turning on the car, roll down the windows and turn on the interior lights. The driver should keep their hands at 10 and 2, and passengers should keep their hands visible. Do not make sudden movements or reach for anything. Once the interaction begins When the officer approaches the driver’s window, they will immediately ask for the license, insurance and, if needed, registration. Hand this information over. At this point, other than the […]

Children are especially vulnerable to dog bite injuries

Dogs are among the most common pets and are often thought of as a member of the family. Most of the time dogs are super friendly and loving pets, but occasionally, often without warning, they can turn vicious. When this happens, they can bite someone and often their victims are children. Unfortunately, they can cause serious injuries, especially in children. Children are susceptible to serious dog bite injuries because they are smaller than adults and unable to defend themselves against aggressive dogs. There are many injuries children can suffer from because of a dog bite, some of them serious. These include: Nerve damage Facial scars Puncture wounds Lacerations requiring stitches Painful series of rabies shots because the rabies status of the dog is unknown Scars Eye injuries Broken bones Long-term emotional trauma because of the incident A legal professional who is skilled in personal injury can help a family who is suffering because of a dog bite injury. They can advise their client on what their legal options may be. Typically, dog owners are the ones who are held liable when their dog bites someone else. In New York, a dog owner is responsible if they neglected to use reasonable […]

What is New Jersey’s Second Injury Fund?

Workers’ compensation benefits exist to protect employees who are injured on the job. But not every injury is created equally and New Jersey recognizes that there are times when good policy also helps employers at the same time. The Second Injury Fund serves both of these purposes. It’s partly an incentive for employers Injuries and illnesses happen, whether at work or not. Because employers are responsible for financing and maintaining workers’ compensation benefits, they may shy away from hiring employees who already suffer from a preexisting condition. Their concern is that they may be forced to pay more than if they’d hired a healthy employee instead. New Jersey’s Second Injury Fund helps to alleviate this concern. Let’s say an employer hires and employee who has already suffered a previous injury or condition. That employee then suffers a workplace-related injury, resulting in them becoming permanently disabled. The Second Injury Fund takes on a portion of the financial burden for workers’ compensation benefits, rather than the employer paying for everything. What does this mean for the employee? To qualify for benefits under the Second Injury Fund, the employee must have had a preexisting injury, they must then suffer a new work injury […]

New Jersey distracted driving crashes again come to the forefront

Despite auto manufacturers and cellphone companies striving to make it easier for people to safely use features on their handheld devices and onboard systems without diverting their attention, distracted driving remains a problem. Along with recklessness, speeding, drivers who are under the influence and drowsiness, distraction is one of the primary causes of auto accidents with injuries and death in New Jersey and across the United States. The Garden State is high in distracted driving incidents. Research is conducted to assess the damage it can cause and why it is happening. Safety advocates, legislators and law enforcement are tasked with finding solutions. Still, it continues. With that the case, people who are concerned should know what they can do if they or a family member were injured due to a distracted driver. Recent study highlights distracted driving problem in New Jersey Drivers who take to the New Jersey roads should be aware of a Rowan University study that showed as many as 20% of state drivers are distracted behind the wheel. The main catalyst for distraction is a cellphone. Advocates lament the continued problem of distracted driving saying that not much has changed in the past decade in terms of […]
